Luton Town have rejected a £1.5 million bid from Millwall for goalkeeper Josh Keeley. The Championship side's approach was turned down this week before Millwall moved to sign Filip Marschall from Stevenage.

Josh Keeley is a 23-year-old goalkeeper who joined Luton Town from Tottenham Hotspur in July 2025 for a reported £1 million fee. He turned professional in 2021 after coming through the academy system in Ireland, where he played for St Kevin’s Boys, Belvedere, Shelbourne, and St Patrick’s Athletic. Keeley won league titles at Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 levels before his move to England.

His senior experience includes loan spells at Barnet in January 2024 and a full season at Leyton Orient in the 2024/25 campaign. At Orient, he made 45 appearances and kept 16 league clean sheets, helping the club reach the League One play-off final. Last season with Luton, Keeley made 45 League One appearances and earned his senior debut for the Republic of Ireland national team.

Millwall manager Alex Neil was seeking goalkeeping cover due to an injury to their current keeper, Lukas Jensen. Their search led them to Keeley, but Luton's refusal of their £1.5 million offer prompted a swift alternative move. Instead, Millwall completed a medical for Filip Marschall and are set to sign the former Aston Villa goalkeeper.

Marschall spent last season at Stevenage, where he played 48 games, recorded 19 clean sheets, and conceded 47 goals. His performances saw him lead League One in several statistical categories, including clean sheets, penalty saves, high claims, and sweeper keeper actions. He had previously been on loan at Gateshead and Crewe Alexandra.

The decision to reject the bid indicates Keeley remains a part of Luton Town's plans for the current season. The Hatters currently sit 13th in the League One table with 4 points from their first three matches, following a win, a draw, and a loss. Their recent form reads LDW, and they have scored 8 goals while conceding 10, giving them a -2 goal difference. They are three points behind early leaders Blackpool.

Rob Edwards will want stability in his squad as they prepare for their next match, a home fixture against high-flying Stockport County on September 2nd. Fans can check the full schedule on the club's fixtures page. Stockport currently sit 3rd in the table, making it a significant early-season test at Kenilworth Road.

Luton's start to the 2026/27 season has been mixed, and maintaining a competitive squad depth will be important for the challenges ahead. The club's defensive record will be under scrutiny, especially with 10 goals conceded in the opening three games. The transfer window activity, including this rejected bid, shows the club's intent to keep key players as they aim to climb the standings. Josh Keeley's continued presence provides experienced cover and competition for the starting goalkeeper position as Luton Town look to build momentum.
