Harrison Ashby could face his former club Bradford City when Luton Town host the Bantams at Kenilworth Road on Saturday. Manager Jack Wilshere confirmed the 24-year-old wing-back has returned to training and is in contention for selection.
Ashby missed last week's 2-1 defeat at Stevenage but has since rejoined the squad. Wilshere explained the decision to give the player extra recovery time. "Ashby obviously missed the Thursday game," the Luton boss said. "We gave him a little bit more time to recover after that because we didn’t have a game for eight days and we tried to get the balance right."
The Newcastle United loanee spent the second half of last season with Bradford, making eight appearances as Graham Alexander's side reached the League One play-off semi-finals. He has been a regular for the Hatters this term, featuring in all but one of their fixtures before his recent absence.
Luton sit 12th in the table with eight points from six games, five points behind leaders Sheffield Wednesday. Their recent form shows one win, one draw and three defeats from the last five outings.
Saturday's opponents Bradford have started strongly and currently occupy third place. The match presents a chance for Luton to build momentum after an inconsistent opening to the campaign. Wilshere, the former England and Arsenal midfielder, must now decide whether to reintroduce Ashby into his defensive plans for the key fixture.
