Jack Wilshere made several attempts to bring Arsenal's teenage talent Max Dowman to Luton Town on loan this summer. The Hatters' manager, who spent over 15 years at Arsenal, personally pursued the 16-year-old forward to bolster his squad.

Senior scout and club ambassador Mick Harford confirmed the approach. "I think Jack's asked him a couple of times, Mikel, but I don't think he'll be going out on loan," Harford said.

Dowman is considered one of English football's brightest prospects. He made his senior debut for Arsenal at just 13 in a 5-0 win over Leeds United in August 2025 and scored his first Premier League goal at 16 years and 73 days against Everton. The wide player has made 13 first-team appearances, including three in the Champions League, and scored twice in the Carabao Cup against Ipswich Town.

Wilshere, who managed Arsenal's under-18s after his playing career, is a known admirer. He stated he is a fan of Dowman's progress and believes the youngster handled his debut admirably. The manager also thinks Dowman can become a superstar if given the chance.

Despite the interest, a move did not materialise. Luton instead secured five other Premier League youngsters on loan: Harrison Ashby, Emilio Lawrence, Dan Gore, Jamie Donley, and Tudor Mendel. The club currently sits 12th in League One with eight points from six games, having lost 2-1 at Stevenage last time out.

Wilshere's focus remains on developing his current group. "We take a holistic view of the academy, pushing our players to excel," he said. The immediate task is a home game against third-placed Bradford City this Saturday. Fans can check the full fixtures list and view the current squad online. The result against Bradford could help improve a recent run of form that reads one win, one draw and three defeats from the last five matches.
