Harrison Ashby is back in contention for Luton Town's next League One assignment after returning to training. Manager Jack Wilshere delivered the update on the defender alongside news on several other squad members ahead of the visit from Bradford City.
Ashby missed the 2-1 defeat at Stevenage last Thursday but has since worked with the group. "Ashby obviously missed the Thursday game," Wilshere said. "We gave him a little bit more time to recover after that because we didn’t have a game for eight days and we tried to get balance right, but he has trained today. We need to make a decision on him." His potential availability is a boost for a side looking to avoid a third successive league fixture without a win.
Clark and Benagr updates
Midfielder Jordan Clark is also making solid progress in his recovery. Wilshere was less optimistic about three other players, confirming Benedict Benagr, Shayden Morris and Jayden Luker remain unavailable for selection. He noted that Benagr, nicknamed 'Clicker', is closer to a return than Morris or Luker but is still some way off. "Clicker’s getting closer," Wilshere explained. "He’s training with a mask on, which he needs to get comfortable with. Training is one thing, but actually being involved is another thing." The manager suggested Benagr is probably a little bit longer than after the upcoming international break.
Another player, referred to as Shandon, joined a group session at the start of the week for very light work. Wilshere described his recovery as a longer process but said he is working really hard.
Opponent's situation
The fixture presents a tough challenge against a Bradford City side sitting third in the table. The Bantams won their first league meeting with Luton in 18 years just days ago, a 1-0 victory at Kenilworth Road where Bobby Pointon scored early. Graham Alexander's team are aiming for a third consecutive league win. Their own squad news sees Tyreik Wright still out, but midfielder Adam Phillips, who missed Tuesday training with a back issue, returned to work on Wednesday.
Luton Town's form has been inconsistent, leaving them 16th in League One with 8 points from 7 games. Their recent run reads one win, one draw and three defeats from the last five, a sequence you can review on our standings page. Nahki Wells leads the scoring charts with four goals so far this season, a bright spot in an attack that has netted 12 times but conceded 14.
The immediate focus is halting this slide, with a trip to fourth-placed Huddersfield Town looming after the international break on 26 September. Supporters can check the full schedule on our fixtures page. Wilshere's decisions on Ashby and others will be key as he looks to reshape a side that has lost its last two matches.
