Rob Edwards has explained why Ryan Giles did not play much at Luton Town before joining Hull City. The manager said Alfie Doughty was the first choice for the left wing-back position during their time in the top flight.
Edwards, who previously worked with Giles at other clubs, commended the player's progress since his exit. Edwards stated, "That’s why we brought him to the Premier League, his athleticism. The stuff that we’re seeing there, that’s what we were expecting from him."
Giles joined Luton for a fee and later moved on loan to Hull, with the deal becoming permanent. He played an important role for Hull as they earned promotion, providing several assists. Edwards commented on the playing styles, saying, "We were slightly different. They were really good on the counter-attack last season, in getting success."
While Giles has done well at Hull and attracted some transfer interest, Luton's situation has changed. The team is now in a different division and has a certain record from its early matches, having recently lost a game.
Edwards' team next plays a high-ranking opponent. The manager is concentrating on his present group of players as they aim to get better results.
