Jayden Luker has signed a new contract with Luton Town, securing the future of a promising young midfielder at Kenilworth Road. The 21-year-old put pen to paper on the deal this week with manager Jack Wilshere present at the club's training ground, The Brache.
Luker initially joined Luton on trial before earning a professional development contract on his birthday in April 2023. His path to the first team involved vital loan experience, most notably a season-long spell at Notts County last term. He played a key role in their promotion from League Two, scoring the winning goal in the play-off semi-final at Chesterfield and featuring at Wembley in the final.
He returned to make his Luton debut in August, starting the EFL Cup tie at Gillingham. Luker provided the assist for Nahki Wells' opener in a 3-0 victory, but suffered a hamstring injury shortly after that has kept him sidelined since.
Manager Jack Wilshere expressed his confidence in the player's development. "Jayden has waited a long time for his chance but has done things the right way, going out on loan and gaining good experience," Wilshere said. The manager added that Luker is now considered a first-team player who will help the squad in League One this season.
Luker is currently working towards match fitness. His return will be a boost for a Luton side sitting 16th in the table with eight points from seven games. Their recent form shows one win, two draws and two defeats from the last five outings. The Hatters travel to face Wycombe Wanderers this weekend, and supporters can check the full fixtures schedule for the coming weeks. Luker's new deal provides positive news as the club looks to climb the standings.
