Luton Town have launched a new third shirt that pays tribute to the club's deep-rooted connection to the town's historic hat-making industry. The purple kit, which features a woven boater hat pattern, will be available for supporters to purchase from 9:30am on Wednesday both in-store and online.
The design is a direct nod to Luton's identity as the home of the Hatters. The club's famous nickname originates from the town's once-thriving straw hat trade. This heritage is woven into the fabric of the new shirt through a subtle boater motif. The choice of purple as the primary colour offers a distinct alternative to the club's traditional orange and white home colours. Luton Town FC said, "We are the Hatters, from Kenilworth Road, as the song goes." The official photography for the launch was shot at the historic Wardown Park Museum by photographer George Dunn, adding a layer of local authenticity to the reveal.
First-team players Shayden Morris, Kasey Palmer, and Harrison Ashby were chosen to model the new third shirt for the official images. Their involvement connects the full squad directly to the club's long history. The photoshoot concept cleverly recreated the atmosphere of the 1959 FA Cup Final, with the players posed as if preparing to board the coach to Wembley. This blend of past and present aims to strengthen the bond between the team and its supporters.
The kit launch comes as Rob Edwards's side find themselves seventh in the League One table. They have taken eight points from their opening five matches, with a record of two wins, two draws, and one loss. Their recent form reads DWLDW. The team has scored 11 goals but also conceded 11, leaving them with a neutral goal difference. They currently sit four points behind early leaders Sheffield Wednesday.
Attention now swiftly turns back to on-pitch matters, with a league fixture against Stevenage coming up very soon. Luton travel to face the 16th-placed side this Thursday, the 10th of September. This match presents an immediate opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table. The club will be hoping for a positive result to build momentum, with the full schedule of upcoming games available on our fixtures page. Luton Town FC added, "Come on you Hatters."
